The Switchback Sweater. Designed by me and named after the zig-zag pattern of switchbacks on a trail - aka my favorite method for uphill travel.
This sweater is hand knit with bulky merino wool, which means that it is buttery soft and insulating. The yarn is sourced from South America and hand dyed.
The color of this sweater is a deep magenta purple with bright accents of scrap yarn making up the zig zags. That is my favorite part of this sweater - that it uses up my leftovers and results in zero waste.
I knit this sweater while on a mountain bike trip to Moab, Utah with my family. This trip was a humble reminder of how to push my limits and that we are often stronger than we think. I love spending time in the desert with my kids and showing them the places that hold so many memories. This sweater is infused with some tent knitting during a rain storm, miles on the shuttle for the Whole Enchilada trail, and nights around the campfire.
This sweater is sized as a medium, but the beauty of hand knit items is the stitches will settle to whatever size you need it to be. The fit is roomy with long, wide sleeves. Also note that when putting the sweater on, there are yarn floats from the colorwork, so be careful to not snag them with your finger or any jewelry. I often wear my sweaters over jackets or coats, so once again, this sweater will stretch over time to however you want to wear it - and it WILL last a long time.
Truly, genuinely made with love, xoxo Shalea
